The different meanings of Amr

Amr is a statement of a speaker to another from an authoritative position saying 'إفعل' (to do something).

By default amr is for wujub meaning the command in the statement must be followed. Other meanings may be inferred but only if you can provide justification.

In total, Amr can possibly refer to one of the following sixteen possible meanings.

الوجوبTo compelأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ (2:43)
الاباحةTo show the allowance of somethingوَإِذَا حَلَلْتُمْ فَاصْطَادُوا (5:2)
الندبTo give preferenceفَكَاتِبُوهُمْ إِنْ عَلِمْتُمْ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًا (24:33)
التهديدTo address one in angerاعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ (41:41)
التعجيزTo make another helplessفَأْتُوا بِسُورَةٍ مِنْ مِثْلِهِ (2:23)
الارشادTo give a suggestion (i.e: try it)وَأَشْهِدُوا ذَوَيْ عَدْلٍ مِنْكُمْ (65:2)
الارشادTo mockكُونُوا قِرَدَةً خَاسِئِينَ (2: 65)
الامتنانTo show your favour upon anotherكُلُوا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللَّهُ (6:142)
الاكرامTo show respectادْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَامٍ آمِنِينَ (15:46)
الاهانةTo insult...ذُقْ
التسويةTo show indifferenceاصْلَوْهَا فَاصْبِرُوا أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا سَوَاءٌ (52:16)
الدعاءTo make a requestاللهم اغفرلي
التمنيTo make a wishوَنَادَوْا يَا مَالِكُ لِيَقْضِ عَلَيْنَا رَبُّكَ (43:77)
الاحتقارTo show disrespect and a low regardأَلْقُوا مَا أَنْتُمْ مُلْقُونَ (26:43)
التكوينTo make something happenكُنْ فَيَكُونُ (2:117)
التاديبTo educateكل مما يليك
